My name is Birgit, mother of three grown up children. Everybody called me “Kiki” since I was a child. – So let’s stay with it.
I grew up in northern Germany, where I worked as a kindergarten teacher. My job gave me the chance to combine my work and passion with the kids.
Now that all my kids live there own life I mostly stay in the beautiful county West Cork in Ireland. Here my dream of a big studio came true. So lots of space to live creativity.
Fabrics and textiles accompany us our whole life. They’re everywhere and they are much more close to us then other materials. All my life I was interested in working with textiles. I started with traditional pattern quilts but then I taught myself all kind of technics with different textile materials to create beautiful things. A good friend once told me: “Don’t think to much, just do it!”
The focus is always on special and interesting material at the beginning. Often I have an idea which turns out to be something absolutely different in the end. The three layers ( top, batting and backing) will be put together and with the quilting it gets the special touch.
That gives me a lot of satisfaction and makes me happy.
Between bigger projects I work on small things like felt fairies, upcycled kidsclothes, everyday things or mixed media pictures and cards. Everything is always combined with textile, sewing, stiching, my big passion.
